Why Pakistani Model Roma Michael Facing Backlash for Bikini Walk at Miss Grand International!
Pakistani model and actress Roma Michael has stirred controversy after a video of her walking the runway in a golden metallic bikini at Miss Grand International 2024 went viral online.
The 29-year-old Christian model from Lahore faced strong backlash in Pakistan, where conservative critics condemned her choice to appear without a hijab and in revealing attire. Under pressure, Michael deleted the video from her social media, but by then, it had already been widely reshared, sparking heated debates on cultural representation and individual freedom.
While some praised Michael’s bold move, calling it a step forward for personal freedom, others argued it clashed with traditional moral standards in Pakistan. Social media discussions captured the divide, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) noting that “social media backlash forced her to delete the video.”
Michael began her modeling career in 2013, working initially with Faces Pakistan before launching into both modeling and acting. Alongside notable fashion campaigns, she has starred in films like Kahey Dil Jidher and Delhi Gate, and popular TV shows such as Tu Zindagi Hai and Pyari Nimmo, establishing herself as a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
